What is Five Element Acupuncture?

We practice Classical Five Element Acupuncture (Worsley-style)

This approach recognises that your body, mind, and spirit are not separate. It understands that they are made of the same five forces found in nature - Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal - and your wellbeing depends on them being in balance and harmony.

When the elements fall out of balance, symptoms appear.

When they’re restored, healing happens.

By working with these forces, we help clear stuck energy, ease physical symptoms, and bring you back to you.

All of this is done by regulating your nervous system - pulling you out of chronic stress and into a state where your body can actually heal.

When the nervous system calms, blood flows better, digestion improves, hormones rebalance, and the immune system switches back on. Acupuncture gently nudges the body back into harmony - not by forcing change, but by guiding it

Think of it as a reset: a return to your natural rhythm, where healing isn't just possible - it's inevitable.

The Elements

Why the Five Elements Matter

Most people come to acupuncture looking for relief - from pain, stress, burnout, or that sense that something just feels off. What you might not realise is that real, lasting change comes from understanding why you feel the way you do.

The Five Elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water - are more than ancient ideas; they’re living energies that shape how you think, feel, and respond to the world. Each element governs certain physical organs, emotional states, and patterns of behaviour.

When you know which element is out of balance, you have a map - not just for treatment, but for understanding yourself. It explains why the same ache or emotion keeps coming back, and what it’s really asking for.

This isn’t about labelling you or putting you in a box, it’s about giving you language for what you’ve always felt but maybe couldn’t quite name.

And once you see it, you can work with it instead of against it.

Which one stands out to you?

The Wood Element Archetype

WOOD | SPRING

The spark of forward movement; vision, direction, and the will to grow.

Wood is your inner drive - the part of you that sets boundaries, makes plans, and moves toward change. When Wood is strong, you feel clear-sighted about your path and ready to take action. When it’s out of balance, you might feel stuck, frustrated, or quick to anger. You might struggle to say no, or feel like life is happening to you rather than through you.

Supporting Wood gives you the ability to move with purpose and intention - with just the right amount of oompf.

The Fire Element Archetype illustration

FIRE | SUMMER

Connection, warmth, and the joy of being fully seen.

Fire is the part of you that loves, laughs, and longs to be in relationship with others. It’s what gives you sparkle in your eyes and softness in your voice.

When Fire is in balance, you feel open-hearted, emotionally expressive, and able to experience joy. When it’s not, you might feel either shut down or scattered - swinging between vulnerability and emotional burnout.

Supporting Fire helps you return to the love for yourself and others, and to the joy that lives within you.

The Earth Element Archetype illustration

EARTH | HARVEST

Grounded support and nourishment; the feeling of coming home to yourself.

Earth is the centre, our gravity - the part of us that holds, nurtures, and offers care (to others and to yourself). It’s what helps you feel grounded in your body and your life.

When Earth is balanced, you feel nourished, steady and complete. When it’s not, you might over-give, overthink, or feel chronically depleted. Craving sugar, touch, or constant reassurance are common signs.

Supporting Earth brings you back to a place of inner steadiness and integrity, so you can sustain not drain.

The Metal Element Archetype illustration

METAL | AUTUMN

Stillness, reverence, and the beauty in letting go.

Metal is your connection to everything. To life, people, meaning, values, and the unseen. It helps you make sense of life, refine what matters, and release what no longer does.

When Metal is strong, you’re able to honour, reflect, and make space for what’s next. When it’s out of balance, you might hold onto old stories, feel overly critical (of yourself or others), or disconnected from beauty or purpose.

Supporting Metal helps you exhale, let go, and reconnect with what really matters.

The Water Element Archetype illustration

WINTER | WINTER

Depth, wisdom, resilience, and the quiet power of the unknown.

Water is your inner reservoir - the part of you that knows how to rest, restore, and trust the unfolding. It’s the place you draw strength from when things get hard.

When Water is healthy, you feel calm, courageous, and connected to a deeper flow. When it’s depleted, fear creeps in: fear of the future, of change, of not having what it takes to survive.

Supporting Water brings you back into contact with your own quiet power - the kind that doesn’t shout, but endures.
